Since the onset of the Covid virus, the past couple of years have been challenging for everyone, as the risk of infection and severe illnesses have adjusted our behavior and the decisions that we make. As an organization, the inability to get together for large gatherings has been difficult as the face-to-face networking at our events has always been so important for us all.
After previously postponing our annual conference, our Board of Directors was very excited about being able to move forward for this year’s conference at the Woodcliff in October as the rate of Covid infection seemed to be declining, making it safer to hold large gatherings once again. Our Western Region conference committee led by Board member Barbara Lark has been doing a great job of putting together a wonderful program for the conference.
Unfortunately, the recent uptick in the virus due to the emergence of the very contagious Delta variant has resulted in increased concern about the safety of large gatherings. Some agencies are again implementing travel restrictions, and many are cancelling events. After a lengthy discussion, your Board of Directors has decided to postpone our conference once again out of an abundance of caution. Registrations for those who have already registered for the conference will be cancelled and refunds will be made to the credit card provided.
We are coordinating with the hotel and conference speakers to reschedule the conference at the Woodcliff in 2022. We will be coming out with more information shortly and are planning to hold some virtual training sessions this fall. Please reach out to your Regional Directors for training suggestions as well as ideas for regional events.
We recognize that this news is disappointing, and we look forward to being able to get together again soon for training, networking, and strengthening our law enforcement profession.
