You have probably heard the slogan, “Saratoga is the place to be!” That was true October 9-11, when New York Women in Law Enforcement held its Fourth Annual Conference at the eloquent Gideon Putnam Resort and Spa during perfect autumn weather in beautiful Saratoga. Over 160 members attended. Once again, the standard for success was high and according to the evaluations, the goal for success was achieved.

Deterring Juvenile Robberies

Click here and read about the New York City Police Department's novel approach to deter juvenile robbers, essentially staging interventions and force-feeding outreach in an effort to stem a tide of robberies by dissuading those most likely to commit them.

This program was created by NYWLE Board member Joanne Jaffe, NYPD Chief of Housing Bureau. Chief Jaffe created the program in January 2007 after she noticed a spike in robberies in Brownsville, a neighborhood with 21 public housing developments within 2.2 square miles. This is another example of excellence in policing by a member of NYWLE.
