Former NYWLE Board Member Promoted to Deputy Inspector

Former NYWLE Board Member, Tara Comiskey, was promoted to Deputy Inspector for the Nassau County Police Department on June 12, 2017.  Tara served on the Board of Directors from 2011 to 2014 and headed the Website & Technology Committee through those years. The newly appointed Deputy Inspector is currently assigned as the Deputy Commanding Officer of the Fourth Precinct. She has been a sworn police officer with the Nassau County Police Department since 1997, and has served as a Detective in the Narcotics Vice Squad and Special Services Squad, and also rose through the ranks as a Sergeant (2007), Detective Sergeant (2010), Lieutenant (2014), and Captain (January 2017). 

Passing of NYWLE Member Michael Bailey

It is with great sadness that NYWLE announces the passing of Michael Bailey. Michael Bailey was formerly the Deputy Commissioner of New York State University Police and a proud member and supporter of New York Women in Law Enforcement. He had previously served as Police Chief for the University Police at SUNY Purchase, and was also the Deputy Chief of the Utica Police Department.  He served 22 years with Utica PD.

Colchester, VT Police Chief New VWLE President

Our sister organization, Vermont Women in Law Enforcement (VWLE) is proud to announce that Chief Jennifer Morrison of the Colchester Police Department, was elected as the President of the Vermont Association of Chiefs of Police last night. She is the first ever female President of this organization and will serve for one year. She is also the only department head member of VWLE. 

Passing of NYPD Officer Kelly Christine Korchak

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of P.O. Kelly Christine Korchak (wife of Det Steven Attarian Emergency Service Truck 6) on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Staten Island University Hospital North. The cause, 9/11 related cancer, was diagnosed while she was pregnant. Kelly opted to complete the pregnancy and forego aggressive treatments. Kelly was 38 years old and had just given birth to her son, Luke Harrison Attarian, 8 months ago.

NYWLE Members Honored in Onondaga County

Two NYWLE Members were honored during an awards ceremony hosted by the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office. 

Deputy Kamilla Peck received the 2017 Community Service Award for her contributions and commitment to the Susan G. Komen and Carol M. Baldwin annual breast cancer research and awareness race.
