Kathleen Ford, Certified Jail Manager (CJM), Certified Community Leader (CCL), is the Assistant Chief Custody Deputy for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office in Syracuse, New York. She began her career in Law Enforcement (Corrections) in 1992 working at the Onondaga County Correctional Facility. In 1996 she transferred to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s office. She was appointed Assistant Chief Deputy in March 2017 and assists in the management of the Onondaga County Justice Center.
She is a member of the American Jail Association, the American Correctional Association, the New York State Sheriff’s Association, New York Women in Law Enforcement where she is the Treasurer and serves on the board.
She is also a member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central New York where she serves as President of the Advisory Council. She achieved a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University at Brockport, where she majored in Criminal Justice (Corrections) and Psychology and is a graduate of the National Jail Leadership Command Academy. Additionally, she is a member of the 2017 class of Leadership Greater Syracuse and has been on the committee with the NYS Civil Service assisting in creating Civil Service exams. She has earned the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office Community Service Award and Medal of Distinction as well as the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Personal Achievement Award, when she was promoted to Captain, being the first female to achieve the rank of Captain in the Custody Division. Currently, she is the first female in the history of the Sheriff’s Office to achieve the rank Assistant Chief.
